I am Defne Sesin Okay, born in Istanbul. After completing my undergraduate studies at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Photography, I continued at the same university for my master’s degree and Proficiency in Art (PhD). My master’s thesis was titled “Surface – Image Formation Created by Organic Materials and the Search for a New Language”, and my doctoral dissertation was “Structuring Photography as a Data Transmitter in the Reading of Cultural Codes.” Here, you can find these works both in PDF format for download and in formats designed for easier reading.

Following my undergraduate studies, I have carried out professional projects in various fields of photography, with a focus on fashion and portraiture, and I continue to pursue these productions today. In addition, I have taught photography at several universities and institutions, and I am currently a faculty member at Beykoz University.

I have participated in both solo and group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad (France, Canada, Germany).

Alongside my photographic practice, I produce handmade paper from organic materials, which I also incorporate into some of my works. I am also an animal lover and a professional dance instructor.
